ABOUT DOGGONECHIC^®

DogGoneChic^® is a canine sportswear apparel and designer jewelry business, born from the crossed paths of two broken hearts.

An incredibly special, beautiful whippet, Pennier, and I found each other after his previous owner had died of cancer, literally beneath him. Pennier had been bounced around prior to that, and now was about to become homeless. Impractically and impetuously, I volunteered to take him in. We wound up both needing each other, and helping each other in the process.

"I truly believe God created dogs for a cause. They are the greatest companions a man could ever have," Golden Globes Best Actor Mickey Rourke told the New York Post last year. And during his acceptance speech for The Wrestler he said, “I'd like to thank all my dogs. The ones that are here, the ones that aren't here anymore because sometimes when a man's alone, that's all you got is your dog. And they've meant the world to me.” I’ll second that, Mickey, as another human being who was saved by the love of her dog(s). Click to see video clip

I learned that Pennier is from a class of dogs known as "sighthounds": whippets, greyhounds and Italian greyhounds, four-legged athletes who hate the cold and the rain. From necessity (and the soul’s need for aesthetics), I began to design practical, chic sportswear for those four-legged athletes, whose beautiful physiques should not be stuffed into awkward, unattractive clothing. DogGoneChic^®’s sportswear apparel line, is fashioned of the same state-of-the-art, breathable fabrics that human athletes, such as runners wear.

And as Pennier and I grew closer, the idea occurred to me that we who love our dogs are truly owned by them…though we may not know it. Who takes who to doggy daycare these days? Who rearranges their life for the comfort and security of their pets? Who buys who clothes?

Thus was born the second line of DogGoneChic^®: the DogTag, loosely based on a military ID/"dog tag". This DogTag is a designer pendant of fine jewelry for you to wear close to your heart, set with your dogs birthstone and stamped with his or her name. The DogGoneChic^® DogTag also bears a free-hanging charm in the shape of a bone, heart or star.
